Kim Barry lives in the seaside town of Mattapoisett, MA. Her work is infused with influences and inspirations from this beautiful coastal environment. Her landscapes are painted onsite and reflect the energy of the weather, season and time of day. Her studio paintings are from observation of natural objects and created in her studio located at #410 Hatch Street Studios, 88 Hatch Street, New Bedford, MA.. Kim is also a member of TAG The Art Gallery in SOWA, Boston, The Providence Art Club ( an exhibiting and teaching member), South Coast Artists, Westport Art Group, Marion Art Center, Gallery X and New Bedford Art Museum. Kim holds a BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She has been an art educator most of her life and former chair of Visual and Performing Arts at CATS Academy Boston.

2013-14 Co-curated “Synergy; Ocean Stories”, New Bedford Art Museum. Synergy originally presented at the Boston Museum of Science in 2013.  Collaboration between scientists at MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and selected regional artist

 

2013 Stories in Stone/ History in Stone, Education Outreach  YEAH! /BOLD, Public Alternative School for at risk high school students. Humanities Education Project. Landscape painting and drawing to high school students on site at Grove lawn Cemetery, Fall River, and the Fall River Public Library. 

 

2013 New Directions, Fishing City Project, Mayor’s Learn and Serve Project. Implemented art/science education program for New Bedford High School students. Ocean Science classes at the New Bedford Explorium combined with art instruction. Students learned about the New Bedford fishing industry, marine environment, fish biology and global warming and produced a 10’ x 16’ ceramic mural. Permanently installed on the outside of the New Bedford Ferry Terminal Building on June 2014.

 

2012-13 Co-curated, New Bedford Harbor in a New Light, A contemporary response to the New Bedford harbor with over 40 artists at New Bedford Art Museum and the University of Massachusetts Purchase Street Gallery. Produced an exhibition catalog.
